Student Achievement continues to improve in Golden Hills

Students in the Golden Hills School Division are performing well and continue to improve in many areas according to the most recent results on the 2015-2016 Provincial Achievement Test and Diploma Examinations.

“We are very pleased to see continued increases again in this year’s student achievement results” said Bevan Daverne, Superintendent of Schools. Many of our Achievement test and Diploma exams results have continued to rise across Golden Hills schools.  We are very proud of the hard work of our students as well as the work our teachers do to create innovative and engaging classrooms.”

Golden Hills saw increases in the number of students achieving Acceptable Standard over the previous year in eight of the nine diploma courses (English 30-1 & 30-2, Math 30-2, Chemistry 30, Social 30-1 & 30-2, Biology 30, and Physics 30). Golden Hills’ students exceeded the provincial Standard of Excellence benchmark in five of the nine diploma courses (English 30-1, Biology 30, Chemistry 30, Physics 30, and Math 30-1). There were also increases over the previous year in the number of students achieving the Standard of Excellence in five of the nine diploma courses (English30-1, English 30-2, Chemistry 30, Biology 30 and Physics 30).

In Golden Hills School Division, the percentage of students achieving the Acceptable Standard improved over the previous year in five out of the eight of the Achievement tests in grades 6 and 9 (Grade 6 Language Arts and Math, Grade 9 Language Arts, Math and Science). The percentage of students achieving the Standard of Excellence improved over the previous year in three of the eight Achievement Tests. Grade 6 Math and Grade 9 English Language Arts and Science were above the Provincial average for the number of students achieving the acceptable standard. Furthermore, Grade 6 Language Arts, Science, Social, Grade 9 Language Arts, Science and Social all exceeded the provincial Standard of Excellence

The Provincial Achievement and Diploma Examination results are measured in the Provincial Accountability Pillar. Other indicators include dropout rates, high school completion, post-secondary transition rates and a variety of stakeholder satisfaction measures.

Principals will communicate their school’s results, along with important contextual information, to parents at School Council meetings. This information will be reported in each school’s Annual Educational Plan and Results Report which will be posted on their website by November 30.

In accordance with the Provincial Protocol the Board has had the opportunity to review the 2015-2016 provincial testing results for the diploma exams and Provincial Achievement Tests.  “We are all very pleased to see the continuous growth of our students’ achievement level. The Board is grateful for all the hard work teachers, support staff and parents have done to help support students.  Parents are encouraged to attend the School Council meeting where principals will review the results and discuss the school’s annual education plan” said David Price, Golden Hills School Division Board Chair.
