Golden Hills School Division is seeking a qualified Carpenter to work with the School Division.
Reports to: Facilities Manager
Primary Responsibilities:
The Carpenter is responsible for repairs, maintenance, installation, inspection and construction to the interior and exterior of the division facilities, school fixtures, equipment, and school grounds. In addition, the carpenter assists with the general maintenance of facilities and surrounding grounds to ensure that they are safe, functional and in good condition at all times. The primary area includes Strathmore area schools including Carseland and Wheatland Crossing.
Essential Requirements:
- Carpenter Trade Certificate is an asset. Two to three years minimum experience.
- Thorough and current knowledge of the standards, practices, methods, tools and equipment of the trade.
- Establish a good working relationship and open communication channels with stakeholders.
- Hands-on knowledge and experience in the safe operations of a variety of tools, machinery and power equipment
- Repair or replace doors, windows, locks, crash bars, panic bars and all associated hardware. Training can be provided.
- Construct and install furniture, millwork, cupboards, shelving, countertops, cabinets, flooring, framework, walls, stairs, bathroom partitions, whiteboards, bulletin boards, towel dispensers, soap dispensers and other related carpentry tasks.
- Move, install and assemble supplies and equipment as needed. Additional maintenance duties will include but are not limited to hanging pictures, mirrors, snow removal, mowing, installing, changing ceiling tiles and unplugging toilets etc.
- Willingness to learn functions of our HVAC and BMS systems
- Rotating on-call shifts with the potential for after-hours and weekend work.
- Respond to emergency situations during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns. Must be located within 20 minutes of one of the facilities in the primary area.
- Potential weekend work due to projects.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work independently
- Ability to withstand indoor and outdoor environmental conditions
- Valid driver’s license. Must provide a drivers abstract with a maximum of 6 demerits.
- Applicants considered for employment will be required to provide a Royal Canadian Mounted Police Disclosure of Criminal Record Information, and an Alberta Children’s Services Intervention Record Check.
Golden Hills School Division has its headquarters in Strathmore, Alberta and includes the communities of Strathmore, Carseland, Standard, Drumheller, Acme, Linden, Carbon, Three Hills and Trochu.
